Fat with a ph

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

Went to a Body Composition test today at Giant Kelana Jaya.

Hehe. Turns out that I need to lose 3.9kg. The funny thing is, everybody was really shocked to hear this. They said that I look so skinny.

This really cute nurse(the reason why I took the test) took a drop of my blood and drip it on top of a strip of paper and slot it in a machine. After processing for about 180 seconds, it displays the result showing all sort of stuff in my blood. Then, at another booth, another nurse check for blood pressure and measured my waist size. After that, they measured my height and weight. From all this data, they punched these numbers in a computer and printed the result. All this took like 5 minutes and for only RM10. The money also, will be donated to charity.

Anyway, I’ve decided to start doing some cardio exercise back, and maybe lift some weight on top of that. Maybe even start swimming again every weekend.

The Island

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

The Island tells the story about a group of clones in year 2015. These clones, called ‘products’ were made specifically for two purposes for their original counterpart. Harvesting their organs for organ transplant and bearing babies. After that, they’ll be killed.

The products were born and bred in what appears to be a plastic sack filled with transparent goo, quite similar with matrix. Their age were accelerated to fit the age of their original counterparts. They were then burned with a set of numbers and tagged with a bracelet containing their identification. The products were then given sets of white clothes and shoes and subjected to rigorous social and physical training and checkup to keep them healthy.

The products were educated that the world outside is polluted and they are the lucky ones to survived. Once a while, through a lottery, one of them will be sent to the island. The island is pictured to be the last unpolluted place on earth and only selected few are allowed to be there. The reality is, going to the island means it is the time for the clone to be harvested.

This is one of those movies that have stupid title, terrible advertising campaign, but left me in awe. Action packed and heart pumping, I would highly recommend watching this movie.

ASB tips n tricks

Ada berita baik utk fellow millionaires

Dalam diam2, kebanyakan bank ada menawarkan perkhidmatan pinjaman ASB. Kadar faedah ialah BLR + 0.5% annum. Kat mana kita boleh buat untung kat sini? Lets review some stuff first

1. BLR(Base Lending Rate) terkini = 6.0%
2. Faedah loan yang dikenakan = BLR + 0.5, jd faedah loan yang dikenakan = 6.5%
3. Dividen ASB lebih kurang 10% (nilai dividen berubah2 ikut tahun, jd saya abaikan bonus dan tetapkan dividen 10% supaya senang kira. Nilai ni belum pernah lagi lebih rendah dari BLR)

Nampak dah? Kita pinjam duit yg berfaedah 6.5% setahun, untuk melabur dlm saham yg bagi dividen 10% setahun. Kalau kita pakai balik duit dividen tu utk bayar monthly payment hutang, kita akan dapat untung 3.5%!! Yay! Duit free

Some additional info
3. Nilai minimum ialah RM20k, maksimum RM200k
4. Bayaran balik secara bulanan. Tempoh maksimum bayaran balik hutang ialah 20 tahun.
5. Tak payah penjamin, tak payah down payment. Masa nak apply nanti bawak buku ASB je.
4. Kalau tak paham jugak, belanja saya teh tarik. Nanti saya terangkan :-)
Seperti ilmu, kekayaan cuma akan datang kepada yang mencari

Human limit

If humans were ment to fly, God would’ve gave us wings

Came accross that phrase last night. Have you heard it before? I remember the first time I read it was when i was still a small boy. Funny. It sounded logical at that time.

What’s interesting about that statement is that it was proven wrong by the Wright brothers. They proved that humans were never limited to physical limitation.

What limits us is our willpower to achieve a dream. Luckily, there’s no limit to that. ^_^

Good night

Commenting codes

Tuesday, July 19th, 2005

Uh.. head hurts.. must bang head to sidewalk

I don’t know much about software quality but I’ve been reading some codes that I’m supposed to continue and came up with these guideline.

1. Document eveything. This is a cliche. It really helps the person who’s going to use your classes. Prepare a design document before hand and please use natural language when doing that. Think of it as telling a sci fi story to your 60 year old parents. Surely, you won’t include such technical details when doing that, right?

2. Please use meaningful comments. A neat trick that i’ve been using is copy and paste the stuff i’ve written in my design docs and code according to them.

3. Only sentence case or title case when commenting. A PARAGRAPH WITH ALL THE LETTERS IN UPPERCASE MAKES IT REALLY HARD TO FOCUS ON THE MORE IMPORTANT STUFF WHICH ARE THE CODES.

3. Limit the symbols. Borders are good. But like drugs, too much is bad. For example, instead of this

//————————————————
//DrawLabel
//
//Draw text.
//Draws within the rectangle area specified by rRect.
//————————————————

Why not this?

//Name: DrawLabel
//Purpose: Draws Text
//Description : Draws within the rectangle area
//specified by rRect.

This would be better, don’t you think? Its clean and fits the objective.

4. Peer review the comments. Yes, I know that it’s boring and takes too much time but remember, the purpose of comments is to help future developer. If your peer who knew you can’t understand your comments, what makes you think a stranger can?

Good night.

London Terror Bombings

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

‘LONDON - Terror struck in the heart of London on Thursday as explosions ripped through three subway trains and blasted the roof off a crowded red double-decker bus.’

http://news.yahoo.com/fc/world/london_bombings

Terrorism is never about the weak against the strong. It is never about injustice. It is about anger and rage channeled towards weak and defenseless civilians.

My prayers for those suffered as the result of this atrocity.
